The Cairo Grand Library was opened on January 24, 1995, and over the past ten years, it has achieved remarkable accomplishments. The number of visitors to the library (600 beneficiaries) has doubled daily, and new services have been introduced, such as telephone and fax information service, information technology club, providing interactive information broadcasting service, ongoing briefing, issuing a series of books and studies, and organizing a cultural and artistic program for adults and children covered by various media.
The Cairo Grand Library is the largest public library in Egypt and one of the most prominent cultural and civilizational centers established by the Ministry of Culture to serve researchers,students, and the general public of various ages and categories. It includes a specialized information center for Greater Cairo, and the library overlooks the Nile in the Zamalek district, occupying a historic palace that is a magnificent architectural masterpiece owned by Princess Sameeha Kamel (daughter of Sultan Hussein Kamel) at the end of the nineteenth century.
The palace consists of three floors and a basement floor, with a total area of approximately 3465 square meters, of which the palace buildings occupy 535 square meters before the additions.
