The Great Cairo Library was inaugurated on January 24, 1995, and over the past ten years, significant achievements have been made. The number of visitors to the library has doubled (600 beneficiaries) daily. New services have been introduced, such as telephone and fax information services, an information technology club, providing selective dissemination of information and ongoing awareness, issuing a series of books and studies, organizing a cultural and artistic activity program for both adults and children, covered by various media outlets.


The Great Cairo Library is the largest public library in Egypt and one of the most prominent centers of cultural and civilizational radiation established by the Ministry of Culture to serve researchers, students, and the general public of various categories and ages. It includes a specialized information center for Greater Cairo. The library overlooks the Nile in the Zamalek district and occupies a historic palace, a magnificent architectural masterpiece that belonged to Princess Sameh Kamel (daughter of Sultan Hussein Kamel) at the end of the nineteenth century.


The palace consists of three floors and a basement, with a total area of ​​approximately 3465 square meters, of which the palace buildings before the additions occupy 535 square meters.
